Hotels

For more than thirty years, I have represented hoteliers across Canada in the purchase, sale, branding, and financing of hotel properties, including development and redevelopment sites from coast to coast. I have advised on hundreds of transactions for independent hotel owners and family-owned hotel portfolio companies.

Commercial Real Estate

I represent commercial real estate investors in the purchase, sale, financing, ownership, leasing, and management of commercial and investment properties, including retirement homes, plazas, and medical buildings.

I also assist with land assembly and ownership structuring, but I do not handle development applications or most of the development work typically managed by land use and planning lawyers.

Transaction collaboration and closing

I rarely manage transaction closings myself anymore. Instead, I help my clients and their teams develop the key agreements and map out the transaction; then I oversee the process in collaboration with my client’s existing lawyers or lawyers I engage for my clients to manage the closing details and paperwork.  I remain directly involved to ensure each transaction is properly documented, completed successfully, and supported through any post-closing matters.

I help handle purchase price adjustment issues on closing, but do not provide income tax, accounting, mortgage brokerage, or valuation services. Many highly qualified professionals in our communities offer that support, and I expect my clients to have those advisors in place or I will help them find the right ones for their project.
